About Me

I am an all day, every day wedding photographer. When I’m not shooting, I’m thinking about images, my craft, the process and how I can make the most memorable and enduring photographs possible. I am also a photographic educator, teaching studio lighting, history of photography, Photoshop/Lightroom, and fundamentals of photography to students of the Visual Arts Center in Old Towne Portsmouth. I am the father of two wonderful children and I am always photographing them of course. Before I got into wedding photography I was active duty in the Army, photographing the V Corps and 76th Army Band in tours through Iraq and Germany. I have photographed for several newspapers including the Virginian-Pilot and my commercial photographs have been published on book covers and in numerous advertising campaigns for companies like Chrysler Motors, Maxim Magazine, Snow Business UK, Bank of America, Harley-Davidson, and the Norwegian Tourism Board.

In 2007, I chose to focus my career on wedding photography because of the unique opportunity it presented to connect with people in a meaningful and fulfilling way. Wedding photographers need to be technically minded. We’re out there juggling a whole orchestra of equipment on location in changing light. We need to have a backup for every camera and lens we use and backups for those too. We deal with thousands of images every weekend and we can not afford to lose a single one. Wedding photographers stress every detail and plan for every contingency. We are arriving early and never late to a deadline. These things come naturally to me and I pride myself in being a consummate professional, but there is still more required of us.

Wedding photographers need to see the artistry in every moment. We’re fast on our feet but we also need to notice when the mood is slow and contemplative. We know when to step in and ensure the day moves along with the timeline, but often to be the invisible while we work. We look for the ways poetry can be written with light and shape. We delve into the personality and imagination of our clients and emerge with photographs that exceed expectations. This is why I am a wedding photographer. This is why I get excited by every ceremony for which I am fortunate enough to be a part. Let’s set up a meeting and talk about your wedding.

  • Bryan Myhr is an outstanding photographer. He did not hesitate when we asked him to drive 10 hours to shoot our wedding in Pennsylvania. He is passionate about his work and it shows. He will do whatever it takes to get the best shots and capture your memories from your special day. Not only is he a phenomenal photographer, he is a great person as well. When the bridesmaids were struggling to bustle my dress, he wasn’t afraid to put the camera down and get in there to fix it! Thank you Bryan!!

      • Can I get the photos on a disc? – Yes. After your wedding I’ll post some teasers and few days later, all the proofs. Proofs are unfinished copies of the photos for your viewing and selection. Any print or digital download that you order gets retouch and color correction. You can see my very reasonable print prices by clicking on the left tab here. If you want a digital copy of any image with print release it is just $1.09 per image.
      • Your pricing is different than most wedding photographers… – I strive to be the wedding photographer I would want for my own wedding. Over the past few years I had gradually increased my pricing to a price I could never have afforded. I’m a philosophical kind of person and the categorical imperative applies. I want to live in a world where people get amazing photos from experienced, reliable photographers at a fair price. I don’t expect to get rich. I like riding my bike and gardening; spending time with my family. What were we talking about again?
      • Can I get copies for facebook or other social media? – Yes! We love couples that post photos to facebook, especially the ones who tag Myhr Photography. Every print or digital image order comes with a free web resolution copy via email.
      • What is retouch and color correction? – We don’t over-process or make people look “not like themselves”. Some retouch might include cropping, removing distracting elements, improving complexion a bit and special effects.
      • Do you travel – Absolutely, just cover the cost of transportation and lodging and I’m there. My prices are the same, just getting a second shooter might be more expensive if needed.
      • Does the online gallery ever expire? – No. I have every online wedding gallery I have ever shot still available and that is guaranteed in the contract. If my business is ever to close, a code to download every full resolution photograph will be made available to each client via email. Even still I have everything backed up on multiple hard drives and the cloud. This ensures that you will never lose your valuable wedding photographs.
      • Watermarked Web Resolution Copy – $0.27
        Unlimited online use (no printing)
      • Full Resolution Digital Download – $1.09
        Print Release – Personal Use
      • Wallets (set of 4) – $2.54 each

Different ways to pose group formal photos.

Different ways to pose group formal photos.

Every wedding is unique and group portraits are more than just a formality. Though you may be more interested in the intimacy of modern portraiture, the group portraits are often some of the most cherished images from a wedding. I am making this post so show some different ways to go about it. Hopefully these examples will help you decide how you want your group photos to look. This is especially important for those who like to control every detail. Naturally, those who would rather not have [more]
